Albertina Vicenté Martins

This is a photograph of my grandmother (Mickey & Johnny's mother) which was taken for her passport in 1920. She was 21 years of age. This photo took me about three hours to restore in Photoshop 4.0. As a mother with two boys, myself, I have to wonder how my grandmother made it through seeing two sons go off to war. I do have a great admiration for her doing this, without obvious trouble, and she always had the framed star displayed in her house until the day she passed on in 1964.

I cannot find her in the ship manifests on Ellis Island immigrants. However, I did find what I think is my grandfather on there:

First Name: Jose
Last Name: Martins
Ethnicity: Portugal, Portuguese
Last Place of Residence:  Lisbon, Portugal
Date of Arrival: October 12, 1921
Age at Arrival: 24y
Gender: M
Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Sao Tiago
Port of Departure: Huelva, Spain
Worked as a steward aboard the ship and earned $39.16
Employment okayed by the American Consulate at Huelva, Spain on September 19, 1921,
and given a visa, and engaged from Lisbon

If that is my grandfather, Joseph Martins, that is listed there, then perhaps I have found a little information about his immigration to this country.  He came over here first to get established, and then sent for my grandmother after that.  They were married in Rhode Island. He is found on line #13 on the ship's manifest.
